Boiler Upgrade Scheme

This scheme provides grants for the installation of new zero or low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps or biomass boilers. Click here to find out more about air-source heat pumps

Who is this available to?

The boiler upgrade scheme is available to property owners (including owner-occupiers, landlords and businesses) who:

  • have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding recommendations for cavity wall or loft insulation
  • have or plan to install a new heating system after 01 April 2022
  • are replacing a fossil fuel heating system such as oil, gas or electric

What is available?

Grants are available for:

  • £5,000 towards an air-source heat pump
  • £6,000 towards a ground-source heat pump (including water-source heat pumps and those on shared ground loops
  • £5,000 towards a biomass boiler (if the property is off the gas grid in a rural area)

How do I get access to grant funding?

To get access to a grant, you’ll first need to contact a suitable MCS certified installer. Click here to search for an installer. After contacting an installer, they will be able to confirm your eligibility. Once you have agreed a quote with your chosen installer, they will make the application for the grant on your behalf.
