PEOPLE WITH LOW INCOME

Income-related Eligibilities

Must have EPC of ‘D’ rating or below and either:

1) An annual income of less than £30,000 after paying rent/mortgage, council tax and utilities bills

2) Or receiving an income-related benefits below (please note this is not an extensive list):

• Employment and Support Allowance
• Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income Support
• Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit
• Universal credit

Schemes

Please note there are other ways to be eligible for the schemes e.g health conditions but the income related eligibilities are as follows:

1) The broken boiler replacement scheme: EPC of ‘D’ or below, 1 of the income related criteria and must also be an owner occupied property with a broken gas boiler.

2)The free first time central heating scheme: EPC of ‘D’ or below, 1 of the income related criteria and it must also be a property that does not already have central heating i.e. all electric for example storage heaters.

3)Free home energy visit: any on the left or read more here. EPC aspect not required. Please note due to covid this is predominately a phone appointment but can be home visit where suitable.

4)Fuel top-up vouchers: any of the left. EPC aspect not required. Those with long-term health conditions can benefit from fuel top-up vouchers if they are on a pre-payment meter. Please contact us for more info on this.

How to offer help

• If you know the client receives a money related benefit they would automatically be eligible. Or if you think they’re annual household income is below £35,000 then it’s also worth discussing the support available.
• Tell them the support is there to be used and can make them warmer at home and can reduce their energy bills.
• What’s the EPC bit? This stands for Energy Performance Certificate. It measures how energy efficient a property is with an A rating being the best and G being the worst.
• You can check if any address has an EPC via the UK Gov online register.
• If the address doesn’t have an EPC – don’t worry we’ll ask some scoring questions about the property instead.
